ACC 620 Financial Reporting II sample papers, module by module

Reviewed by Portia Lambrick, MBA

ACC 620 picks up where the first graduate reporting course stops, with the long-term obligations and equity questions that shape a public company's balance sheet. The samples below follow one composite refrigerated carrier in Wisconsin through a year of leases, taxes, pensions, share-based pay, an acquisition and a foreign subsidiary.

ACC 620 is SNHU’s Financial Reporting II course. It centers on advanced financial reporting for long-term obligations and equity under U.S. GAAP: leases, income taxes, pensions and other postretirement benefits, share-based compensation, earnings per share, accounting changes and error corrections, business combinations, consolidation with noncontrolling interests and foreign currency translation. Every module below opens a full sample paper or takes a free request for one; searches like "acc 620 module 3", "ACC620 sample paper" and "ACC 620 milestone example" land on this page.

What ACC 620 is really about

ACC 620 is SNHU's second graduate financial reporting course, and it adds the measurement problems that rest on long horizons and assumptions: discount rates for lease and pension obligations, the likelihood that a tax position holds up, the fair value of shares that vest in three years. Strong work computes the numbers and then explains which assumption drives them, how sensitive the result is and what a reader of the statements should take from it. Graduate graders expect Codification citations and a clear line from the calculation to the disclosure.

The samples on this shelf share one composite company, a Nasdaq-listed refrigerated trucking carrier in Wisconsin that leases most of its terminals, finances part of its tractor fleet through leases, still carries a frozen pension plan from its union years, pays executives in restricted stock and performance shares, bought a smaller Minnesota carrier and owns 70 percent of a cross-border logistics company in Monterrey. The company and its figures are illustrative.

What ACC 620’s modules ask for

Across ten modules, ACC 620 typically asks for discussions on lease capitalization, pension assumptions and accounting changes, assignments on lease calculations, pension cost and business combinations, three final project milestones on income taxes, share-based payment with earnings per share and consolidation of a foreign subsidiary, and a final project presenting an analysis of the company's long-term obligations and equity.

Where students lose points in ACC 620

The most common ACC 620 deduction is a correct schedule with no explanation of the assumption behind it, such as a lease liability computed without saying where the discount rate came from. The second is mixing old and current standards, especially operating lease rules from before ASC 842 and the two-step goodwill and treasury stock methods replaced by later updates. Graders also mark down deferred tax work that never reaches the rate reconciliation. Naming the governing Codification Topic first fixes most of these.

Module 1

ACC 620 Module 1 Discussion example

An opening post on why ASC 842 put operating leases on the balance sheet, told through a composite Wisconsin refrigerated carrier whose 31 leased terminals added $142 million of right-of-use assets and lease liabilities: what the old rules left out, what changed and what did not, the effect on debt ratios and loan covenants, and whether investors learned anything new, with the FASB's 2016 lease update, Altamuro, Johnston, Pandit and Zhang and Kieso, Weygandt and Warfield. Module 4

ACC 620 Module 4 Discussion example

A discussion post on the assumptions behind a composite Wisconsin refrigerated carrier's frozen union-era pension plan: a $412 million obligation measured with a 5.45 percent yield-curve discount rate, a 6.75 percent expected return that shapes reported cost, how much a quarter point moves each, research showing managers bend the expected return when earnings matter, and what an auditor and audit committee should ask, with Bergstresser, Desai and Rauh, Picconi and An, Lee and Zhang. Module 6

ACC 620 Module 6 Milestone Two example

A second final project milestone on a composite Wisconsin refrigerated carrier's equity pay and earnings per share: restricted stock units valued at grant-date price, performance shares tied to the operating ratio and expensed at the probable 150 percent payout, relative return shares valued by Monte Carlo with no reversal, options under the treasury stock method including unrecognized cost, $150 million of convertible notes under the if-converted method after ASU 2020-06, and basic EPS of $0.90 against diluted EPS of $0.88, with Aboody, Barth and Kasznik, the FASB's convertible instruments update and Kieso, Weygandt and Warfield. Module 7

ACC 620 Module 7 Discussion example

A discussion post on a composite Wisconsin refrigerated carrier that found its accident claims reserve understated by $1.4 million for 2023 and $1.1 million for 2024: why the error is immaterial to each prior year but material if corrected in 2025, how that leads to a revision of prior periods rather than a reissuance restatement, what the SEC's rollover and iron curtain approaches mean, and why the choice draws scrutiny, with FASB Statement No. 154, Tan and Young and Hennes, Leone and Miller. Using a ACC 620 sample the right way

Read an ACC 620 sample by finding the one assumption behind each schedule, the discount rate, the probability, the grant-date value, and checking whether the paper says why it was chosen. When it does, the sample shows the graduate judgment this course grades. For ACC 620, send the case, the guidelines and the rubric, and the first custom sample comes back free within 24-48h.

ACC 620 questions, answered

Which standards does ACC 620 cover?

Typically ASC 842 leases, ASC 740 income taxes, ASC 715 pensions, ASC 718 share-based payment, ASC 260 earnings per share, ASC 250 accounting changes, ASC 805 business combinations, ASC 810 consolidation and ASC 830 foreign currency.

Do I need ACC 610 before ACC 620?

The courses build on each other, and ACC 620 assumes comfort with Codification research and the revenue, fair value and impairment topics covered first.

Are ACC 620 papers mostly calculations?

Calculations are central, but graduate rubrics give much of the credit to explaining assumptions, alternatives and disclosure, so each schedule needs analysis around it.
